The GHS is a system for standardizing and harmonizing the classification and labelling of chemicals. Chemicals are associated with codes that define their health, physical and environmental hazards.This universal hazard communication system was developed to ensure that employers, employees and consumers are provided with adequate, practical, reliable and comprehensible information on the hazards of chemicals, so that they can take effective preventive and protective measure for their own health and safety.

  SVHC is a substance (identified by the European Chemicals Agency) that may have serious and often irreversible effects on human health and the environment. SVHC are defined in Article 57 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (“the REACH Regulation”) and include substances which are:
  1.  Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or toxic to Reproduction (CMR), meeting the criteria for classification in category 1 or 2 in accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC or in category 1a or 1b in accordance with EC No 1272/2008This directive was recently replaced by the new EU regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
  2.  Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic (PBT) or very Persistent and very Bioaccumulative (vPvB) according to the criteria in Annex XIII of the REACH Regulation, or
  3.  Identified, on a case-by-case basis, from scientific evidence as causing probable serious effects to human health or the environment of an equivalent level of concern as those above (e.g. endocrine disrupters).

    • Warnings

      continuous contact with used motor oil has caused skin cancer in laboratory animal tests. Avoid prolonged contact. Wash skin with soap and water. Launder or discard soiled clothing.

    • Acute health effects

      From MSDS Inhalation: Vapors or mist, in excess of permissible concentrations, or in unusually high concentrations generated from spraying, heating the material or as from exposure in poorly ventilated areas or confined spaces, may cause irritation of the nose and throat, headache, nausea, and drowsiness. Eye Contact: May cause minimal irritation, experienced as temporary discomfort. Skin Contact: Brief contact is not irritating. Adverse effects are not expected from brief skin contact. Prolonged contact with skin, as with clothing wetted with material, may cause defatting of skin or irritation, seen as local redness with possible mild discomfort. Ingestion: If more than several mouthfuls of this material are swallowed, give two glasses of water (16 oz). Get medical attention. Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Because of its irritating properties, repeated skin contact may aggravate an existing dermatitis (skin condition). Other Remarks: When overheated, product may release hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas. H2S concentrations above permissible concentrations can cause irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and pulmonary edema. At concentrations above 300 ppm, respiratory paralysis, causing unconsciousness and death, can occur.

    • Chronic health effects

      From MSDS No adverse effects have been documented in humans as a result of chronic exposure.

    • Carcinogenicity

      From MSDS Used gasoline motor oils have been shown to cause skin cancer when repeatedly applied to mouse skin without any effort to remove the material between applications. There is no evidence of a causal relationship between skin cancer in humans and exposure to used motor oil.

    • Handling information

      From MSDS Minimum feasible handling temperatures should be maintained. Periods of exposure to high temperatures should be minimized in storage. Water contamination should be avoided.

    • Disposal information

      From MSDS This product has been evaluated for RCRA characteristics and does not meet the criteria of a hazardous waste if discarded in its purchased form. Under RCRA, it is the responsibility of the user of the product to determine at the time of disposal, whether the product meets RCRA criteria for hazardous waste. This is because product uses, transformations, mixtures, processes, etc. may render the resulting materials hazardous.
